When Lan Wangji was walking out of the inn, the wind of the summer was blowing the hot air of the noon with the land embraced by the scorching sun.
What a blazing season!
An extraordinary-looking young master who captured the gaze of all the passers-by was seemingly opposite to the burning hot summer day. He was like the snowflakes gone with the wind and dropped to earthliness as a fairy off any dust.
A group of young girls blushed when they saw Lan Wangji, hesitating about hitting on him and finally leaving in the hustle and bustle.
Standing at the same place, Lan Wangji did not seem to notice the affection from the crowds. He was just staring with his light-colored eyes at a towering tree in the distance on which the black clothing of someone was gone with the wind.
The tree had a thick and straight trunk as well as branches and coarse tree bark whose unevenness was telling how many years it had been living through. Looking up, Lan Wangji was captured by the bright green color of the leaves which blocked the dazzling sunlight. What a vibrant scene!
Wei Wuxian was sitting on the safest branch in black as usual, with a bright red ribbon fastening his hair and Chenqing at his waist.
Lan Wangji reached out his hand to get rid of the nonexistent dust and stepped to Wei Wuxian’s direction.
Noticing Lan Wangji was approaching, Wei Wuxian smirked, humming a song without rhythm and fluttering his legs slowly in the air. He had well-shaped legs which looked fitter against the black boots.
Lan Wangji stopped in front of the tree and reached out his hands.
Feeling warm like being in spring in March or in summer in June, Wei Wuxian was overwhelmed by the affection sprouting from the inside of his heart. Closing his eyes and leaning his body, he let go and fell out of the tree. Yet the feeling of falling did not last long as he was dropped into a hug, a warm and firm hug.
Surrounded by the familiar and relieving smell of sandalwood from Lan Wangji, he crashed his face into Lan Wangji’s neck with his arms firmly wrapped his shoulders. They enveloped in an embrace for a while, and the warmth in Wei Wuxian’s heart shifted to his eyes. He winked so as to squeeze the liquid which blurred his vision out of his eyes.
Looking up and pressing a kiss on Lan Wangji’s face, Wei Wuxian whispered at his ears and said, “So glad to have you catch me again, Han-guang Jun.”
He knew that no matter whether he would fall down or not in his life’s journey, no matter how difficult life would be, there was one never failing to guard him, love him and wait for him. He would offer him a hug from time to time and catch him over and over again whenever he fell.
He was free from the loneliness like in those years any more.
Lan Wangji fondled his back and responded.
“Let me get down, Lan Zhan,” said Wei Wuxian, occupied by Lan Wangji’s sandalwood fragrance, and realizing he had been in Lan Wangji’s arms for a long while. If they were not in the street, he did not mind being carried for a longer time. However, there were few people in the street, and no one had ever noticed their intimate actions.
“Well... how about Si Zhui and other young guys in your sect? Did you say that you were in a night hunting? Where are they now?” discovering no one nearby, said Wei Wuxian.
Holding his hands, Lan Wangji said with tenderness, ”They found an evil spirit and went for it.”
Wei Wuxian immediately knew it would not be a dangerous one since Lan Wangji had confidence in them. “It would be a good opportunity for them to accumulate some practical experience.” he thought and headed for the town nearby with Lan Wangji.
The hustle and bustle was a usual scene in Caiyi Town in Gusu. Along the street there were houses with white walls and black tiles. Banners of shops were fluttering in the wind. Dribs and drabs of small boats were mooring at the bank. A girl was bargaining with customers in a soft and gentle voice in Gusu dialect. Her basket of fruits was on the ground, in which the elliptical loquats were juicy and of delicate taste.
“Sister, how much are the loquats?” Wei Wuxian approached and asked with a bright smile.
The girl fluttered her plain circular fan to hide her shyness, responded in a soft and gentle voice, “For your handsome face, my pleasure to offer you two for free. Here you go.” the girl picked two loquats with smooth surface and reached out to Wei Wuxian.
“Sister you are so kind. I am gonna buy a basket next time.” He shook his hands to convey his gratitude and got the girls’ nodding for farewell in response.
“Er Ge-ge, see what I’ve got.” Wei Wuxian got onto the bridge in few steps and lay his arm onto the stone column, ”I have been thinking Gusu is so interesting for long. Tasty wine, beautiful girls. For example, the sister just now is so kind. By the way, Lan Zhan, have you ever been here for fun before?”
“No, Wei Yuan-dao.”
Hearing this, Wei Wuxian realized the jealousy from Lan Wangji and felt even more affection for him.
With a smile Wei Wuxian pressed a kiss on Lan Wangji’s lips, resting his hands on his chest lightly and said with a sweet voice, “Er-ge-ge, I am yours with my whole life. I don’t want anyone expect you. Even I am yours no matter how many lives I do have. I am always here. OK?”
“Mmm.” Lan Wangji tightened his grip on Wei Wuxian’s waist with flushed ears and responded.
“Shall we go back a little bit later tonight? It is not a common chance to have fun of this kind. Shall we, Lan Zhan?” said Wei Wuxian, holding Lan Wangji’s hands firmly and swaying to please him.
“No problem, but no exception next time.” the tenderness for him only spilled over from Lan Wangji’s eyes.
Hearing this response, Wei Wuxian widened his eyes and pressed a heavy kiss on Lan Wanji’s chin.
With the sun falling, festive lanterns gave out polychromatic light, rendering the world a colorful look.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were walking side by side, going through the light and boarded a boat.
The boat could accommodate two people without making them feel crowded. Wei Wuxian leaned on the chest of Lan Wangji, gripping each other and feeling the temperature.
He squinted, sniffing the fragrance of sandalwood from Lan Wangji with satisfaction and rubbed his chin with his own face.
Lan Wangji saw him going to drag his forehead ribbon and led his finger promptly to his lips for a kiss. “Wei Ying.”
Seeing this, Wei Wuxian touched his lips with a smirk. “What’s up, Han-guang Jun?”
Lan Wangji gripped his waist and braced him within his hug with a kiss on his forehead.
“Second Young Master Lan, when did you learn to flirt others? From whom, mh?” said Wei Wuxian with a grin.
Meanwhile, fireworks rose up to the dark sky and bloomed. Though ephemeral, the firework had its last spark remaining in the sky. They bloomed one after another, giving an illusion that they were going to last.
The street was illuminated by the lanterns, which appeared to be stars in the sky. In the tree shade some girls were praying for a harmonious match for marriage with hands together winded by red cloth.
“Young masters, there is even more fun ahead. Shall I drop you off there?” said the boatman.
“Ok, please drop us off there. Thanks,” said Wei Wuxian, ”Go back a little bit later, no exception next time, OK?”
Lan Wangji lowered his head and whispered something to him and found him burst into laughter just as he did in his youth.
Lan Wangji looked into his eyes, only to find the gorgeous firework reflected in his eyes.
Nothing is better than have you by my side.
